Over the years, so many of the placements we’ve made have started with exactly the same sentence:

“No I’m not actively looking…”

And that’s often why those conversations are the best.

When you’re happy in your current role, there’s no pressure. You can look at an opportunity objectively, ask the questions that matter, and decide whether it’s genuinely a better fit. You’re interviewing them just as much as they’re interviewing you.

Too many people wait until they’re frustrated, fed up, or feeling undervalued before they start exploring the market. In my experience, that’s when career decisions can become reactive rather than well considered, and poor decisions are made.

Having a conversation doesn’t mean you’re looking to leave.

Sometimes it’s simply about understanding what’s out there, what you’re worth in today’s market, and whether there’s a better opportunity waiting for you.

Even if you decide to stay where you are, you’ve lost nothing. If anything, you’ll have a better understanding of your options.
